Many years ago, when I lived right on 13th Avenue, the Cathedral Village Arts Festival was right outside my door. I remember it because I volunteered at one of the booths during it, and when I got back home, I had to shoo people off the steps to get inside my apartment.
Fast-forward to 2020 and I moved back to the Cathedral Area in the fall. I had missed the CVAF that year, but was excited to experience it in 2021. Unfortunately, the festival was held virtual that year due to the pandemic. It was still interesting and I did do some online shopping, but it wasn't the same without the crowds, the noise, the music, and the food. Eating a hot dog in your kitchen listening to Spotify doesn't compare to eating one on 13th Avenue while listening to live music.
Being said, I was very excited to hear the CVAF was happening in person this year!
One thing I always forget about the arts festival is that it isn't just the street fair. There is music, art, dance, and performances going on all week. This year I saw a lot of it being shared on my Instagram and TikTok, and was very excited to see just how many people were involved in it. One thing I really want to do is get more involved in the art scene in Regina. We have so many incredible artists in Regina that I feel almost robbed of their talents by not being part of the scene.
While I didn't participate in any of the week-long events, I did go to the street fair. I checked out Elle's Cafe, Summer Bash, Jenny's Bow and Meow, The Regina Folk Festival, Paper Umbrella, Storybook Princess Parties, The Penny University Bookstore, Chicken Eh!, Ohana Craft Amigurumi, Art Gallery of Regina (where I helped with a piece they're working on), Northern Lights Bluegrass and Old Tyme Music, FLAT Clothing, Heritage Regina and Sinfully Sweet Cathedral Bakery.
You can see it all on my YouTube video:
All in all, I was over-the-moon excited for the CVAF to happen this year. My only regret is not going to more events during it, other than the street fair. But, fingers crossed, I'll have another chance at attending it next year.
